Announcing SmartSearch 8

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 8, 2014, 2:46 PM
Here's what I'm planning, features are sorted in priority order :
- Addon support (Done)
The addons will be able to fully edit the interface. They will be able to take advantage of the SmartSearch API that will allow you to create new toolbar buttons, panels, and fetch bookmarks.

- Apps support (Done)
Apps will be another type of addons, that will allow you to create special web apps for SmartSearch.

- New menu (Done)
The new menu will be optimized for addons, but it will also be customizable, like the toolbar. It will look a lot like the Firefox Australis menu, but that might change as I develop the other features.

- Discovery tour (not started)
The new version will also focus on discovery. It will help users know about hidden features, such as Customizing or side by side search (aka Ctrl+Click).

- Performance improvements (in progress)
Mainly improvements to make customization mode faster but also page load improvements.

- Engine managing (not started)
This was originally planned for SmartSearch 7, but will be for SmartSearch 8. This is last priority despite the importance of the feature.

--------------------------------------------
Notes :
- There will be no full rewrite unlike the older versions
- There will be no radical interface change except for the new menu

I'm thinking of making (hopefully publishing for 30 points) a mag about dA with the MADEFIRE motion book tool, anything you want me to put in it?

Update to prev. comment - tried this:
if (!$("#desktop").hasClass("nodrag")) {
    $("#desktop .dtitem").draggable({
      .........
    }
  });
}
Won't work, dunno why (I inspected #desktop - it definitely has class .nodrag)

I need more details, when are you running the function ? On document ready ?
If you are then try this code :

$(document).on("mousedown","#desktop",function() {
if (!$("#desktop").hasClass("nodrag")) {
    $("#desktop .dtitem").draggable({
      .........
    }
  });
}
});

If you run the function on document ready, it will only check the class on document ready.

Other comment - HTML hasn't displayed properly for some reason (dA's comment system is buggy)

Finally found a solution - HTML (some of it):

<!-- Menu items -->

JS (dragselect.js - all of it except //stuff):

var selected = $([]),
offset = {
top: 0,
left: 0
};

$("#drag").selectable({
filter: ".dtitem",
});

$("#drag .dtitem").draggable({
//Stuff
});

JS (script.js - some of it):

...
$(document).click(function() {
// Other Stuff
$("#drag").addClass("drag");
});

$("#desktop").contextmenu(function(event) {
// Other Stuff
$("#drag").removeClass("drag");
});

CSS (some of it):

#drag {
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
position: fixed;
display: none;
}

#drag.drag {
display: block;
}

Nope, still doesn't work. I've tried everything I could think of. Thanks though, anyway
